Nickel-plated, unwelded "O" Rings. These are very easy to twist open and close with two sets of pliers.

Brief demo on opening/closing "O" rings. I open "O" rings by using two sets of locking pliers, and twist. Once they're removed, I do my stringing or whatever I'm planning on doing, then put the "O" ring by on by reversing the process. Make sure you that you get them closed since you don't want edges or separation between the two parts.
